TOEFL EXERCISE (SKILL 1-3)

(exercise 1)

1. 1. The subject (of the lectures) was quite interesting.

In the sentence, The answer is correct (C)

Analysis:

The subject is SUBJECT and was is VERB.

"Lectures" is not SUBJECT, it is object after preposition "OF".

(Red = A, Green = B, Blue =- C, Yellow = D)

2. 2. The languages of the world presents a vast array of structural similiarities and differences.

In the Sentence, The answer incorrect is A

Analysis:

because '’the languages' is a plural subject so it must not be followed by s/es in the end of the verb.

Correctly :

The languages of the world present a vast array of structural similarities and differences.

3. 3. The rise of multinationals have resulted in a great deal of legal ambiguity because multinationals can operate in so many jurisdictions.

In the sentence, the answer incorrect is A

Analysis :

Because, the rise of multinationals is look like a plural subject, but it can be change to ‘it’ which is a singular subject that has the auxiliary verb such as : is, was, does, has.

Correctly :

The rise of multinationals has resulted in a great deal of legal ambiguity because multinationals can operate in so many jurisdictions.
